It doesn't mean you have to believe in the story of a virgin birth or any little thing about this time of the year. It doesn't really matter what you believe in, but face facts: it is Christmas time.
Can we just accept that and when someone says, "Merry Christmas," we don't act like someone just told us to go fuck our mothers? We don't have to be rude and say, "Uh, I'm Jewish." Fine, you're Jewish. Happy frakking Hanukkah! "Oh, I'm an atheist." Fine, you're an atheist. Merry Fucking Christmastime anyway, biocce!When any other holiday comes around, no one tip toes around it for fear of upsetting anyone else. Happy Halloween! Happy Valentines Day! Happy Canada Day!
It's also the way the word "holiday" permeates everything! Holiday shopping, holiday candies, holiday baking blah blah blah.
You can call it "bullshit" if you want, but no one objects when someone gives them a Christmas gift, do they!

I sooooooooooooo agree. I work retail and I say Merry Christmas to my customers. I've only had one person get huffy and say that it's improper for me to say that. I replied, "So does that mean I can't wish someone a happy President's Day if they're not the president? Get over it!"

ReplyDeleteWhen I tell clients on the phone Merry Christmas and they respond "Oh, I'm jewish, hindu etc" I reply "Oh, well, then I guess you'll be working Dec 25th and 26th then huh? No? Well then...MERRY CHRSITMAS!" BETCHES!
Good point! Regardless of one's beliefs, if someone wishes you a Merry Christmas, just be polite and say thank you. Is that so hard? We do not need to know (or care) that you're Jewish, etc. etc. etc.
