Another Blog Bites The Dust

One of my favourite music blogs just disappointed me in the worst way. Music Hits Download just posted the new Buju Banton CD, Rasta Got Soul, and there isn't a chance in hell that I can support that kind of music.

It doesn't matter to me if a reggae/dancehall artist signs a "treaty' to refrain from homophobic lyrics.

I will not be tolerated; I will be accepted.

In posts past, I have informed you of a local arena, The Koolhaus, that had supported and housed multiple gay events. Last year, Koolhaus booked two "artists" whose lyrics advocated the murder of homosexuals, , specifically gay men. After a serious PR shitstorm, Koolhaus cancelled those shows only to book another hate-filled artist months later.

I cannot, I will not support this type of "indiscretion."

Here is my comment to the site that up until now, I have enjoyed immensely. Do with it what you wish.

Oh, crap. It's really unfortunate that you posted Buju Banton.

Up until this point, I've really enjoyed your site and the fantastic music that you post, but I just can't support a site that would support an "artist" that is so incredibly homophobic and encourages violence against any group.

This is not just because I am a gay man; I would say the same if it was any other issue that was so extreme.

I know that this is a free site and I have always appreciated the amazing artists and music that you have posted since I've discovered your site, but I'm afraid I can no longer do so.

Unfortunately, the bloggers and other contacts that I have educated about your blog will be notified of this. I wish I could continue, but it is just not possible. I can't be privvy to something that is so violently and unconscionably against everything that I stand for.

I wish you well and hope you enjoy continued success with your site
, despite this obvious flaw in judgement.

  1. Girl, you are so busy. By far the busiest blog I keep up with.

But such a joy. Lovely to be back.

Oh, and RE: Gay Cheque? Totes gay.

  2. Good for you, for sending that message. Its not enough to just say 'that's not right' on our blogs. We have to tell those with the power to stop condoning homophobia and violence.
