Slumdog After The Fact

First: don't judge.

I already admitted that of all the movie releases last year, I saw 6 of them and not even in a theatre.

I finally got to see Slumdog Millionaire. I was really looking forward to seeing the Best Picture that everyone I know kept saying to me, "How could you not have seen it yet?"

Meh.

Don't get me the wrong, it was good. Pretty good, even. Best Picture? No. Granted, tragic tales always have the best chance of being nominated. This was a pretty sad story with a wonderfully happy Hollywood ending. And I don't buy it.

Milk was a trillion times more important, inspirational, tragic and worthy.

That's all I have to say about that!

  2. I haven't seen Slumdog yet (it is waiting for me in the TV room), but I suspect I will agree with you.

  4. I've seen nothing. I plan on seeing a few but ONE MORE DAY until the end of tax season and then maybe I'll see one. Milk is the only movie I really want to see right now, at least that I can think of.

  5. MILK is fantastic. Haven't seen Slumdog, but the hype was a bitmuch for me. There's no way it can live up to everything people have said about it.

  6. I loved them both very much. I'd say Slumdog is worth the hype, and Milk was largely (and unjustly) panned. The fact that it was, is testament to the fact that gays and lesbians still aren't fully accepted in society.

I'm glad both films garnered so much attention. They're both inspiring and moving, and not your typical Hollywood tripe.

  7. Both are good movies. Overall Slumdog was better. THose little kids were awesome and better than the adult jamal/latika characters.

sean penn made milk what it was. without him, the movie would not have been good.

slumdog on the other hand was good, no matter who played the characters.

    both great movies.

Doubt, Changeling, and Frost River were also pretty good movies. IMO.

  8. Yep, I watched Slumdog last night and I agree. I liked it, but "best picture"?? I don't think so. Milk should have won that one.
