We all know Elizabeth Hasselbeck. The woman has shown time and again who she is and what she believes in. I'm not saying she can't or doesn't have a right to, but I'm always amazed that someone so "of our generation" can be so ignorant and excruciatingly clueless.
I was chatting with Geoff from Life and Times of a Gay Guy and he told me about Portia de Rossi being on The View this past week. As I've said before, I don't tune into that hen party on purpose.
I had to have a looky loo. In case you haven't seen it, get caught up, won't you?
Allow me to recap the question: "Take men and women. Women want all the rights of men, but they're not asking to be called men. Do you think...is the word more important than the rights?"
First off, Portia answered that question beautifully. It was direct without being confrontational. It was clear. Not calling it marriage is not the same as equal.
What a stupid question!

Women don't want to be called men; they want to be equal.
Black people don't want to be white; they want to be equal.
Gay people don't want to be straight; they want to be equal.

5 got a thing to say.:
i think portia handled herself with poise and grace and humor. maybe elizabeth liked a little what she saw.and hey, ellen is a lucky woman;-)
Elizabeth works my last nerve!
You know, I had never heard Portia in an interview before and I was totally impressed. Very smart, and a very beautiful woman.
Hasselbeck sticks to Republican talking points and her eyes just glaze over whenever someone tries to explain it to her in any kind of detail. I get it a lot from my Republican or conservative co-workers, they'll start off with some simple talking point, like "death panels", and when you try to explain to them the details regarding End pf Life Counseling, their tiny minds refuse to listen or comprehend.
I blame religion.
Hasselbeck is a one-trick pony.
She cannot hold her own even in the simplest of conversations.
Props for Portia!
